Choose Your Discomfort: A Smarter Way to Approach January at CrossFit Spring Hill

Every January, people feel pressure to overhaul their entire lives.

More workouts. Perfect nutrition. No mistakes. No rest.

And by mid-February, most of it falls apart.

At CrossFit Spring Hill, we’re taking a different approach this year. One that is simpler, more sustainable, and far more effective.

Our January focus is this:

Choose Your Discomfort.

Why January Is Not About Doing More

January already comes with built-in discomfort. New schedules. Cold mornings. Less daylight. More demands.

Trying to stack everything at once usually leads to burnout, not growth.

Real change does not come from doing more.

It comes from choosing better.

Instead of asking our members to chase perfection, we’re asking them to choose one intentional discomfort and commit to it for the month.

What Does “Choose Your Discomfort” Mean?

Choosing your discomfort means identifying one area of your life where comfort has quietly taken over and intentionally choosing a different path.

Not forever. Just for January.

This is not about punishment. It is about awareness, discipline, and ownership.

Some examples include:

  • Sugar-free for the month
  • Liquid calorie-free, meaning water, black coffee, and unsweetened tea only
  • Social media-free, or a meaningful reduction in screen time
  • Choose your own, something personal that would stretch you in a healthy way

There is no leaderboard. No comparison. No judgment.

Just one clear commitment.

Why This Works Better Than Traditional Challenges

Most fitness challenges fail because they rely on intensity without intention.

At CrossFit Spring Hill, we believe growth happens when discomfort is chosen, not forced.

By narrowing your focus to one habit, you gain:

  • Clarity instead of overwhelm
  • Consistency instead of perfectionism
  • Momentum that carries into the rest of the year

Small, intentional discomforts compound. That is how lasting change is built.

This Is Bigger Than Fitness

CrossFit is not just about what happens during an hour-long workout.

It is preparation for life.

Choosing discomfort in January might look like changing how you eat, how you scroll, how you recover, or how you manage stress. Those choices affect your energy, your mindset, your relationships, and your ability to show up for the people who matter most.

Fitness is the tool.

Life outside the gym is the goal.

How to Participate

You do not need to decide immediately.

Over the next couple of weeks, we encourage you to reflect on a few simple questions:

  • Where have I been choosing comfort by default
  • What single change would stretch me in a healthy way
  • What would actually move the needle for my life outside the gym

Our coaches will talk about this more as January approaches and are always available to help you think through a smart, realistic choice.

A January Focus You Can Actually Sustain

January does not need to be extreme to be effective.

It needs to be intentional.

At CrossFit Spring Hill in Spring Hill, Tennessee, we coach everyday adults to pursue long-term, holistic health. That means building habits that last, not chasing short-term motivation.

This January, do not add more.

Choose better.

Choose one discomfort.

Own it.

Let it change you.
