Every year around this time, the same thoughts pop up:
“I’m not ready.”
“I just started.”
“I’m not competitive.”
“I’ll do it next year.”
And every year, I say the same thing:
You should do the Open.
Not because you’re trying to make it to the CrossFit Games.
Not because you need to prove anything.
But because it’s one of the best tools we have for long-term fitness and growth.
Coach Kim and I recorded a quick video walking through everything you need to know:

If you don’t have time to watch it, here’s what matters.
The Open is:
This year’s dates:
It’s a yearly benchmark for your fitness.
I often describe it as a checkup for your work capacity. Your ability to actually do things. To move your body. To handle discomfort. To enjoy your life with strength and confidence.
And unlike a lab number on a piece of paper, this tells you what your body can actually do.
Yes, you can.
Every workout has:
There is always a version you can do.
You will never be in a situation where “everyone is waiting on you.” Workouts are capped. Everyone finishes together.
The Open is built for everyone.
No.
The Open is the starting line, not the finish line.
If you skip it this year because you’re “not ready,” you’ll look back and wish you had your first-year data.
You want that benchmark.
You want to be able to say, “Here’s where I started.”
That’s powerful.
Good.
Competition is not the goal of CrossFit.
Fitness is the goal.
Competition is just a tool. It pushes intensity. And intensity drives results.
You’re not competing against other members. You’re competing against the version of you that wants to play it safe.
This year’s theme for our Intramural Open is Comfort in Discomfort.
Growth lives there.
Registration at games.crossfit.com is optional.
The gym does not benefit financially from it.
We encourage it because:
It’s like signing up for a 5K.
You could run the same route by yourself the next day.
But it’s different when it’s official.
Workouts are released Thursday nights.
We’ll run them:
Our gym is split into four teams for our Intramural Open.
You earn:
The winning team:
Friday Night Lights is one of the most fun nights of the year. Even if you can’t work out, stop by and cheer for 30 minutes.
People who do the Open year after year tend to stay fitter.
Not because of leaderboard placement.
Because they stay committed.
They push harder.
They gain skills.
They build confidence.
They lean into discomfort.
And it’s fun.
Your first Open — or your tenth — does not have to be perfect.
It just has to start.
If you’re ready to stop sitting on the sidelines and actually train for your life, not just your workouts, join us.
Comfort in Discomfort.
Let’s go.
